The Project

Knockastanna Wind Farm is located in east County Limerick adjacent to the Slieve Felim Mountains. Site selection, planning permission and grid connection were secured by Ventus Energy for a five-turbine project.

The General Electric 1.5MW turbines are sited along a ridgeline to exploit the predominant south-westerly wind that comes in from the North Atlantic. Grid connection is via an 11km overhead line to the ESB sub-station at Cappamore.

The wind farm is owned and operated by SSE Renewables who completed construction and commissioning of a four-turbine layout in 2009.
