The site is located in east County
Clare within the Sleive Aughty Mountains adjacent to the
Gort to Tulla Road. The proposal is to install eight x 3MW
turbines that will produce enough electricity to power 22,000 Irish
houses.
The site is on land owned by Coillte and is planted entirely with mature conifers. The
conifers will be felled and an application will be made to return the site to
a natural state. The proposed project replaces an original concept
which utilized land to the west of the Coillte site.
Ventus Energy have pledged that an annual community fund will be provided when
the project is operational.
The planning application was lodged in April 2007 with a provisional construction
date during 2008 to 2009.
